What type of template(s) should be used for websites?

During my journey in this industry I’ve seen many websites made by the beginners, but the main thing where they lack is selecting a right template. Even in the beginning when I became the part of this industry and with zero knowledge of website I too started working on my site. Even I faced the same phase where I have to select a theme for my site, and obviously the youth want something attractive, animated website which looks super-cool. So whats next, I too went for the same theme. I selected a theme which was very attractive, full of animations, design-wise it was awesome, and it was THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I EVER MADE, yes my friends selecting an appropriate theme/template is VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT for any website. We often go for attractive and animated templates, this is where we made our FIRST AND BIGGEST MISTAKE. I’ll not be taking your much time, straight come to the point, while selecting any  theme/template for your website, just keep the following things in mind:

  • Theme must be related to your site content.
  • Always go for basic themes, i.e. light background (prefer white) without any animation.
  • Architecture of theme must be S.E.O friendly.
  • Never go for attractive theme, always be simple and sober.
  • If you search for the professional blogs on Google or any search engine(s), you’ll find one thing common in those blogs, obviously it wont be the content :p , the thing common in them is there theme layout, which is mostly light background and animation free.

Why I told to remember the above points is because, attractive and animated site’s take more time to load, (for ex: gaming site usually take more time in loading, due to its animated games), so if your site also results in more loading time then remember, VISITOR MIGHT NEVER COME BACK TO YOUR SITE, because in today’s world no likes to wait.

In my forthcoming articles I’m gonna talk on, Why websites take more time to load? Who is responsible for it?

TIP: Whenever you go for template selection or website designing, always design your site as a USER AND NOT AS A DESIGNER. Because if you work with the user mentality (only to see view of the site, rest you have to work as professional) then you can realize that, if I’ve been a visitor to this site, do I really like this type of design? and the answer you’ll give to yourself will be absolutely correct. And it would be a better if you even take guidance from an experienced person.
