How to change permalinks settings?

Before I tell you how to change permalinks setting, let me give you a short idea about, what are permalinks?

Permalinks are nothing but the URL’s that points towards a specific blog or forum. Now you have a rough idea about the permalinks and yes one more thing they even results in automated S.E.O for your website.

Now let me tell you how to change permalinks settings, actually there are two ways to change you setting, I’ll discuss both of them one by one.

First way (obviously the lengthy one)

  1. Go to post/page.
  2. Click on add new post/page.
  3. Give title to them.
  4. As soon as you give title, you’ll find a option just below the title PERMALINKS.
  5. Click on edit.
  6. You’ll find some text written in it (can be anything even you post/page title or just anything) just replace it with your post/page title.
  7. ex: www.yourdomain.com/sometext
  8. You have to replace SOMETEXT with your post/page title.
  9. Click save
  10. Now the permalink you have set has become the URL of your that post/page.
  11. The above step you have to repeat in every post or page you write, that’s why I wrote the lengthy one.
  12. NOTE: Once you have set the permalink and saved it, don’t ever dare to change the permalink as it would effect your optimization.

Second way (obviously the short one)

  1. Go settings.
  2. Click on permalinks.
  3. There you’ll find 4-5 options.
  4. Select last option. i.e. Custom Structure.
  5. You’ll find a blank field in front Custom Structure, just add this thing there in the field %post name%.
  6. You have to add the statement in red color and underlined.
  7. Once you have done this, then there is no need to repeat the both ways ever again, (until you haven’t changed the settings).

Hope this article will help you in knowing the importance of URL’s.
